Folarin Balogun set to leave Monaco as two clubs enter transfer race

Two clubs are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Monaco striker Folarin Balogun, with the United States international expected to leave the French club in the coming weeks.

According to Nice-Matin, one of the two interested clubs is from the Premier League, although the identities of the teams have not been disclosed.

Balogun, 25, is under contract with Monaco until 2028 but is now expected to decide where he wants to continue his career before negotiations between his current club and a potential buyer can begin.

The striker will first have to choose between the two interested clubs before Monaco can enter formal discussions with his preferred destination.

Balogun’s departure would bring an end to his time in the principality after establishing himself as an important attacking player in French football.

The New York City-born forward has made 91 appearances for Monaco since joining the club and has become a regular figure in Ligue 1.

He also remains an established member of the United States national team, with 31 international appearances and 12 goals.

Successful start to French career

Balogun began his career in the Arsenal academy before moving to France in August 2022 on loan to Reims.

The spell proved highly productive, with the striker scoring 22 goals in 39 appearances.

His performances persuaded Monaco to make a permanent move for him the following summer, bringing him back to France as part of their attacking plans.

Balogun has since continued to develop his reputation in the French top flight.

Strong numbers at Monaco

The striker featured 43 times for Monaco last season across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing four assists.

Those figures have contributed to his growing reputation and helped attract interest from clubs looking to strengthen their attacking options.

With two teams now reportedly leading the race for his signature, Balogun’s next decision could determine the direction of his career.

If an agreement is eventually reached, Monaco will have to negotiate a transfer fee with the club chosen by the striker as they prepare for his expected departure this summer.
