Foggia linked with French-Algerian striker Yanis Merdji
French-Algerian forward Yanis Merdji, currently without a club, has been linked with a move to Italian Serie C – Group C side Foggia.
The 32-year-old centre-forward became unattached after leaving Girondins de Bordeaux on 1 July 2026. No agreement has been confirmed, and the reported interest remains at the rumour stage.
Merdji spent the 2024-25 season with Bordeaux after joining from Concarneau, having previously played for Chamois Niortais and LB Chateauroux. His career includes 179 Ligue 2 appearances, in which he scored 31 goals and provided seven assists.
He has also recorded eight goals in 27 National 1 appearances and seven goals in 18 Coupe de France matches. Merdji’s highest recorded market value was €800,000.
A move to Foggia would take him to Italy’s third tier, with the club competing in Serie C – Group C. The available information does not indicate whether negotiations have taken place or whether a formal offer has been made.
Born in Roanne on 29 October 1993, Merdji began his senior career in French lower-league football before moving into the professional game with Bourg-en-Bresse in 2018. He is right-footed and operates primarily as a centre-forward.
Merdji is currently without a club after his departure from Bordeaux.
