Florian Wirtz backs Mohamed Salah’s remarks
Florian Wirtz has defended Mohamed Salah after the Liverpool forward’s “heavy metal football” comments sparked debate around Anfield.
Salah’s post suggested Liverpool had drifted away from its identity, and Wirtz said the reaction had been blown out of proportion.
“Mo has known the club for a long time now. He’s just an honest guy. He says what he thinks. This should be OK,” Wirtz said. He added: “If you want to speak, you should be able to speak. Of course, it was a bit of a difficult season for all of us, including Mo. In my opinion, it got made bigger than it was. I don’t think he attacked anyone”.
The remarks came after Salah called for a return to the intense style associated with Jurgen Klopp, prompting plenty of discussion among fans and pundits during a difficult campaign. Wirtz’s comments were aimed at cooling the mood and shifting attention away from the controversy.
The story has added another layer to Liverpool’s end-of-season conversation, with Salah’s future, the team’s identity, and the mood inside the squad all under the spotlight.
