Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has been named in Bayer Leverkusen’s squad for their UEFA Champions League showdown against Atletico Madrid, marking his long-awaited return from injury.
Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso confirmed that Boniface is fully fit and will be part of the travelling squad for Tuesday’s clash at the Metropolitano Stadium.
The 23-year-old forward has been sidelined since November after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with Nigeria during the final round of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Despite encountering setbacks in his recovery, including fitness concerns that kept him out of 11 matches across all competitions, Boniface took part in full training ahead of the Atletico fixture.
His return comes as a significant boost for the Bundesliga leaders as they continue their impressive campaign both domestically and in Europe.
The match between Athletic Club and Bayer Leverkusen will kick off at 8pm on Tuesday, January 21.
