Ghanaian striker Asamoah Gyan’s club, Al Ain, clinched the Emirates Super Cup on Monday by triumphing over Al Jazira in a penalty shootout, finishing 5-4. Gyan, who successfully converted his penalty kick, expressed joy at securing his first trophy since his move to the Gulf last winter. The 26-year-old striker, celebrating his inaugural professional title, extended congratulations to his teammates and highlighted the unity within the Al Ain team.
“Al Ain is a very united team. Everyone works for each other, and the efforts are complementary. There is a lot of sacrifice made on and off the field, and at this level, the work eventually pays off,” remarked Gyan following the match.
Observing Al Ain’s matches, Gyan emphasized the team’s collective commitment, stating, “When you watch Al Ain’s matches, you can notice that we run more than the opponents. This comes automatically since each player intends to help his partner and do something special for the team to win.” Gyan, now the captain of the Ghana Black Stars, made a surprising move from Sunderland, where he initially joined from Rennes, opting for a loan and eventually completing a transfer to Al Ain in June. His contributions to the club include an impressive tally of 22 goals across various competitions.
