He may not speak often, but this time, Djibril Cissé has openly acknowledged a serious mistake he made during a match where his team, Nantes, was trailing 2-1 against Lyon.
Cissé admitted, “I made a gesture that should not have been made. The red card I received was deserved, so there is no issue with the refereeing. I regret my reaction. There was no justification for it. I wasn’t angry; I simply wanted to win the match and score a second goal… I’ve apologized to the entire team and extend my apologies to all the supporters.”
In a rare moment of humility, Cissé also acknowledged, “It’s professional misconduct. I am genuinely sorry.”
