‘Fifteen people contacted me, saying they work at the Ghana FA’ – Leverkusen’s Ernest Poku
The Bayer Leverkusen star, who is also eligible for the Netherlands and Germany, clarified that he has instructed these informal intermediaries to cease contact, preferring instead to handle any international business through his professional management.
The 22-year-old noted that approximately 15 different people had reached out to him claiming to work for the Ghanaian federation.
“I did hear some things from Ghana, but that’s fifteen people who message me and say they work there.
“In the end, you don’t know what to believe. I have indicated that they should not communicate with me. If so, I’ll hear it from my agent,” he said, as quoted by sportnieuws.nl.
Currently a mainstay in the Dutch youth system with over 25 caps, Poku remains one of Europe’s most sought-after dual-national talents.
Since his €12 million move to the Bundesliga from AZ Alkmaar last summer, his stock has risen significantly, contributing five goals and seven assists for Leverkusen this season.
While he admits to a strong cultural bond with Ghana and speaks Twi fluently, he is keeping his options open.
For now, the pacy winger is in a “wait-and-see” mode.
“Netherlands, Ghana and Germany are also options, but I haven’t heard from all three yet. I can only wait…”
