Cameroon Soars in Latest FIFA Women’s Rankings After World Cup Success
Just a day after publishing the updated men’s rankings, FIFA released the latest women’s world rankings on Friday — with Cameroon emerging as the biggest climber.
The Indomitable Lionesses, who impressed during the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada, have jumped 13 places to reach 43rd in the world. This leap rewards their solid performance at the tournament, where they advanced to the Round of 16 in what was a historic campaign for the Central African nation.
Their progress sees Cameroon move up to second place in the African rankings, behind only Nigeria. The Super Falcons, long-time powerhouses of women’s football on the continent, remain Africa’s top-ranked team and sit 29th globally.
Completing the African top three is Ghana, who are ranked 52nd in the world. Côte d’Ivoire, another African representative at the World Cup, ranks sixth on the continent and 67th globally.
