FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke was hospitalized in Rio de Janeiro due to a kidney infection. Valcke, who was in Brazil to inspect stadiums for the upcoming Confederations Cup and the 2014 World Cup, was admitted to Samaritano Hospital. His hospitalization was attributed to a urinary infection, and he was placed under observation. While his condition was reported as not worrying, Valcke remained in the hospital with no immediate plans for release. Thierry Weil replaced him for scheduled events, including a press conference and a meeting with the Local Organizing Committee. Valcke had previously expressed concerns about Brazil’s readiness for the upcoming events.
