In the latest FIFA rankings released for March, there have been notable shifts in the African football landscape. While Ivory Coast maintains its stronghold as the top-ranked team in Africa at 24th globally, there’s a new contender for the second spot. Algeria has climbed one place to secure the 25th position in the world rankings.
However, Cape Verde, previously second in February, has experienced a significant drop, plummeting six places to 33rd globally. This shift has propelled Egypt into the third spot among African teams, showing remarkable progress with a gain of 12 places to sit at 26th in the world rankings. Completing the top five in Africa are Ghana (35th globally) and Tunisia (44th globally).
Nigeria and Cameroon hold the seventh and eighth positions on the continent, respectively, with ranks of 47th and 50th globally. They are followed by Guinea, which has surged nine places to claim the ninth spot in Africa and 53rd globally, just ahead of Mali, closing the African top ten at 56th globally.
A notable highlight comes from the Comoros Islands, which have made significant strides, gaining 15 places to secure the 48th spot in Africa and 183rd globally, owing to their commendable performance, including a heroic draw against Burkina Faso on March 5th.
