FIFA President Gianni Infantino has officially congratulated Issaka Adamou on his election as the new President of the Nigerien Football Federation (FENIFOOT), ushering in a fresh era for football in Niger.
Adamou replaces Colonel-Major Djibril Hima, popularly known as “Pelé,” who led the federation for 16 years. His departure paves the way for a leadership transition that has been widely welcomed across the Nigerien football community.
In his congratulatory message, Infantino said:
“Congratulations to Issaka Adamou on your election as President of Niger Football Federation.”
He added:
“We look forward to strengthening our collaboration with FENIFOOT and supporting your plans for the advancement of football in Niger.”
Adamou, 55, is a seasoned expert in sports infrastructure and a respected architect by profession. He has contributed to several FIFA and CAF projects focused on developing football facilities across Africa.
His administrative background includes a 12-year tenure as FENIFOOT’s 3rd Vice-President and previous service as Deputy Secretary General of the Sahel Sporting Club in Niamey.
His election by acclamation highlights the unity and strong backing he enjoys from regional football delegates and grassroots leaders, following an extensive campaign tour across Niger’s eight regions.
Infantino’s endorsement signals FIFA’s confidence in Adamou’s leadership and its commitment to fostering Niger’s emergence as a competitive footballing nation in Africa. With both local support and international backing, Adamou begins his tenure with renewed optimism for the future of Nigerien football.
