FIFA orders Zamalek to pay former Moroccan player Abdelhamid Maali or risk transfer ban

Zamalek have been ordered by FIFA to pay former Moroccan midfielder Abdelhamid Maali around $550,000 in outstanding wages, with the Egyptian club facing the possibility of a transfer ban if they fail to comply with the ruling.

According to Moroccan outlet Le360 Sport, FIFA’s Players’ Status Chamber has given the Cairo giants 45 days to settle the debt or risk further sporting sanctions, including a suspension from registering new players for two transfer windows.

The decision represents the latest legal setback for Zamalek, who have faced several disputes involving former players in recent years.

FIFA sets deadline for payment

The ruling requires Zamalek to pay the outstanding amount owed to Maali under the terms of the contract that previously linked the player to the club.

FIFA has warned that failure to make the payment within the specified deadline could trigger disciplinary measures under the governing body’s regulations.

A transfer ban remains one of the possible sanctions if the club does not comply with the decision.

Dispute began after contract termination

The case dates back to the unilateral termination of Maali’s contract with Zamalek.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who now plays for Moroccan side Ittihad Tanger, subsequently filed a complaint with FIFA seeking payment of his outstanding financial entitlements.

After reviewing the case, FIFA’s Players’ Status Chamber ruled in favour of the player and ordered Zamalek to settle the debt within 45 days.

Fresh challenge for Zamalek

The latest ruling adds to the legal and financial challenges facing the Egyptian club as it prepares for the new season.

Zamalek must now decide whether to pay the amount within the deadline or risk facing sporting penalties that could significantly affect their transfer plans.

For Maali, the decision marks the end of a lengthy dispute and represents a major victory in his effort to recover the money he claims was owed to him.
