There were rumors about Didier Drogba’s potential return to either Olympique de Marseille or Chelsea before the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). However, questions arose about whether Drogba would receive FIFA’s approval for freelancing, given his recent move to the Chinese league.
Drogba’s manager, Tierno Seydi, expressed the possibility of seeking a special measure from FIFA, considering Drogba’s significant contributions to African football. Seydi stated, “It would be an exceptional measure, but for what he has given to African football, we can ask for it. On what he represents and what he did, FIFA can look into his case.”
The Africa Cup of Nations was scheduled to start on January 19, and the Chinese Championship had concluded in early November. The discussion around Drogba’s potential return stirred interest among football fans, with the focus on whether FIFA would make an exception for the Ivorian striker.
