FIFA Lifts Suspension on Nigeria Following Resolution of Football Governance Issues
Nigeria’s national football federation has had its FIFA suspension lifted, bringing relief to the Super Eagles and their supporters, according to reports from L’Equipe.
The suspension, which had been imposed on July 9 amid concerns of political interference within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was officially lifted on Friday after FIFA confirmed that proper governance had been restored.
In an official statement, FIFA said: “Given that statutory order has been restored within the NFF and the legitimate bodies have been reinstated, FIFA has decided to lift the suspension.”
The suspension was initially enforced during the 2014 World Cup due to a court injunction that barred the NFF President, members of the Executive Committee, and its Congress from managing Nigerian football affairs. FIFA had cited a lawsuit by the High Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the cause of this administrative paralysis.
With the reinstatement of the rightful leadership and compliance with FIFA statutes, Nigeria can now resume full participation in international football activities.
