**Issa Hayatou named interim FIFA president following Blatter suspension**
Following the 90-day suspension of Sepp Blatter, Issa Hayatou, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has been appointed interim president of FIFA in accordance with the organisation’s statutes.
Under Article 32 (6) of FIFA’s regulations, the role of interim president falls to the longest-serving vice-president of the Executive Committee — a position held by Hayatou, who joined the committee in 1990. The Cameroonian, who has led CAF since 1988, will oversee FIFA’s day-to-day affairs until the presidential elections scheduled for 26 February 2016.
At 69, Hayatou becomes the first African to hold the FIFA presidency, even if temporarily.
Meanwhile, suspended FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke will be replaced by German Markus Kattner, who will assume responsibilities during Valcke’s absence.
These changes come amid ongoing efforts to restore stability and transparency within the world football governing body.
