FIFA has imposed a new registration ban on Zamalek SC, preventing the club from registering new players in upcoming transfer windows.
The official FIFA website did not provide specific reasons for the decision, but it comes amid ongoing legal disputes between the club and its Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco, along with issues surrounding the unpaid dues of former player Khaled Boularhoum.
The transfer ban, revealed on Wednesday, will remain in place until Zamalek resolves its financial obligations related to these disputes.
FIFA’s portal also highlighted that Zamalek is among seven Egyptian clubs currently facing similar sanctions.
Other clubs affected include Ismaily, Eastern Company, Pyramids, Pharco, Aswan, and Wadi Degla.
Zamalek’s financial struggles have been well documented, with the club facing significant turmoil over unsettled payments to both players and former coaches.
The situation has created uncertainty within the club, and management is under pressure to find a resolution before the start of the next transfer window.
The ban could have serious implications for Zamalek’s ability to strengthen their squad and compete effectively in the coming seasons.
In recent months, Zamalek’s performance on the pitch has also been disappointing.
The club was eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup after a loss to South Africa’s Stellenbosch in the quarterfinals.
Domestically, Zamalek are currently in third place in the Egyptian Premier League with 38 points, trailing second-place Al Ahly by two points.
Pyramids FC lead the league with 44 points, putting additional pressure on Zamalek to address both their off-field issues and on-field performance.
