Senegal, despite not qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, is in high demand for friendly matches scheduled for FIFA Day in March 2014. Countries sharing the same group with an African nation, including Brazil, Mexico, the USA, and Iran, have expressed interest in facing the Teranga Lions.
The Senegalese Football Federation has received proposals for friendly matches on March 5 from these teams. Mexico, having already played a friendly with Senegal’s local selection, expressed a desire for a match either on the upcoming FIFA date in March or during the World Cup preparations. Mexico is in Group A alongside Cameroon and Brazil.
Brazil, looking to play against a team from Central Africa, has also expressed interest in a friendly match with Senegal. The proposal from Brazil indicates that they would choose Senegal if they are unable to secure a strong opponent from Central Africa.
While the Senegalese Football Federation has no obligation to achieve results in these friendlies, they could use the matches to bring together their internationals for the CAN 2015 qualifiers.
