FIFA fines Israel FA over discrimination breaches
FIFA has sanctioned the Israel Football Association after finding it failed to meet its obligations in tackling discrimination within the game.
The decision follows an investigation triggered by a request from the Palestinian Football Association at the most recent FIFA Congress.
Football’s global governing body confirmed that its Disciplinary Committee had concluded the IFA breached rules related to fair play and anti-discrimination measures.
As a result, the association has been fined 150,000 Swiss francs and issued with a formal warning regarding its future conduct.
The ruling is based on provisions within the FIFA Disciplinary Code that address offensive behaviour and prohibit racist or discriminatory actions in professional football. FIFA said the measures were necessary to uphold standards expected across the sport.
In addition to the financial penalty, the Israel Football Association has been instructed to implement a prevention plan aimed at addressing the issues identified.
This includes displaying a prominent anti-discrimination banner during its next three home matches.
FIFA also requires that one-third of the imposed fine be reinvested into educational initiatives and internal reforms.
These programmes are intended to reduce the risk of similar incidents occurring in the future and will be carried out under FIFA’s supervision.
The organisation reiterated its stance that football should serve as a platform for unity and dialogue, particularly during periods of wider global tension.
While focusing on its sporting jurisdiction, FIFA stressed its responsibility to protect human dignity and promote respect within the game.
The Israel Football Association has the option to appeal the decision before FIFA’s Appeals Committee, meaning the case could yet develop further.
