FIFA dispute clouds Yan Diomande’s proposed move to Real Madrid

Ivory Coast forward Yann Diomande’s expected move from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid has reportedly encountered an obstacle after a dispute between two agencies representing the player prompted a complaint to FIFA.

Spanish newspaper AS reports that agency Maxidel has lodged a case with football’s governing body, alleging a breach of contract after Real Madrid negotiated with Roc Nation, which currently manages the player’s affairs.

Although the transfer is said to be close to completion, the ongoing dispute could complicate the registration process and delay the Ivorian’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Agent battle sparks FIFA complaint

According to the report, Maxidel oversaw Diomande’s move from Leganés to RB Leipzig last year and claims it still holds representation rights over the player.

The agency has now turned to FIFA, arguing that negotiations involving Roc Nation and Real Madrid constitute a breach of its agreement with the 19-year-old forward.

The dispute goes beyond a disagreement between representatives, as FIFA regulations governing player agents could directly affect the transfer’s approval.

Real Madrid are reportedly not involved in the legal disagreement and were unaware of the issue before negotiations began.

Club officials are said to remain confident that the situation will eventually be resolved, although they are monitoring developments closely.

FIFA approval remains final hurdle

While the financial details of the transfer and the player’s contract are believed to be almost complete, FIFA’s approval is still required before the move can be officially registered.

Under football’s regulations, FIFA can delay—and, in exceptional circumstances, refuse—the processing of an international transfer if there is an unresolved dispute over a player’s representation.

The governing body has reportedly received Maxidel’s complaint and is currently reviewing the matter.

One possible solution could involve Diomande receiving a temporary licence while the case, which reportedly concerns commission payments linked to the transfer, is settled.

Both clubs are expected to proceed cautiously, as payments made to an unauthorised representative could result in sanctions.

Change of representation at centre of controversy

Maxidel has maintained close ties with Diomande since arranging his transfer to Leipzig and continues to highlight its relationship with the player.

RB Leipzig are also understood to have worked with the agency during discussions concerning the striker’s future.

However, Diomande reportedly changed representation in recent months by joining Roc Nation, a company with a growing influence in world football and strong connections in South America.

It was through Roc Nation that Real Madrid conducted negotiations, a move that appears to have triggered the disagreement between the two agencies.

The Ivorian talent recently spent part of his post-World Cup break in the United States, where he visited Roc Nation’s offices in New York before returning to Germany.

Madrid await outcome

Despite the legal uncertainty, negotiations between Real Madrid and Leipzig are believed to be in their final stages, with the structure of the deal and the relevant paperwork close to completion.

For now, however, the Spanish giants must wait for FIFA’s decision and for a resolution to the dispute between the player’s representatives.

Diomande remains in Leipzig, but reports suggest the forward is already looking ahead to a possible move to Madrid, provided the final obstacle can be overcome.
