As previously reported by ATS, Senegal is keen on honoring the FIFA date of March 5 and has reportedly come to an agreement with Mali for a match to be held in the Paris suburbs.
This information emerged from the recent meeting of the executive committee of the Senegalese football federation, where various proposals for a match on March 5 were discussed. However, Mali seems to be leading the negotiations, with discussions described as “very advanced” by a member of the Senegalese federation’s executive committee.
Despite progress in talks, a financial issue remains unresolved, requiring input from the Ministry of Sports and Community Life of Senegal. The final decision, including financial aspects, lies with the Senegalese government. Confirmation is expected by Tuesday or Wednesday the following week.
Nonetheless, the Senegalese federation emphasizes their commitment to playing on the FIFA date, even if Mali is not confirmed as the opponent. Other options considered included Mexico, Chile, Croatia, and France, though facing an African team is preferred as preparation for the CAN 2015 qualifiers starting in September.
