Lydia Nsekera, the president of the Burundian Football Federation, emerged as one of four candidates vying for the position of a woman on the FIFA Council. This position, the 25th on the executive committee, is specifically reserved for women within FIFA.
Nsekera’s competition includes Moya Dodd from Asia, Sonia Bien-Aime from the Americas, and Paula Kearns from Oceania. The election for this role will be part of the agenda during the upcoming FIFA Congress scheduled for May 30 and 31, 2013.
The FIFA Council plays a crucial role in the governance and decision-making processes of FIFA, and the addition of a dedicated position for women reflects efforts to promote gender diversity and inclusivity within the organization.
