Wydad Casablanca midfielder Bart Myers has praised the performance of his teammates despite their defeat against Manchester City.
The Moroccan club suffered a 2-0 defeat against the Premier League side on Wednesday in their opening game in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.
“Wydad’s performance was good at the start of our journey, and we are proud of ourselves and happy with the strong support of our fans in the stands. Their enthusiasm is amazing, and it pushed us to give 120% of our effort on the field,” Myers said via DAZN after the match.
“I was only in Casablanca for two days before travelling to America, and I noticed the overwhelming popularity of Wydad there, and the number of my followers on social media exploded.”
“I have never played among Moroccan fans, but I am really looking forward to it, because what I know and what I have seen in the videos is amazing.”
Ahead of their second group game against Juventus on Sunday, the Dutch midfielder is targeting nothing but a win.
“We must perform with confidence and courage, just as we did in today’s match. We are striving to achieve a positive result. We didn’t come here just to participate, but to represent Morocco and prove our capabilities to the world.”
Kick-off for the game is scheduled at 16:00 GMT.
