FIFA Club World Cup: We have learned a lot from Juventus defeat – Wydad star

Wydad Casablanca star, Lorch Thembonkisi, says they have learned a lot from their defeat against Juventus.

The Moroccan side suffered a 4-1 defeat against the Italian side on Sunday at the Lincoln Financial Field, with Thembonkisi scoring the only goal for the side.

The result confirms Wydad’s elimination from the tournament after recording two defeats, having opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Manchester City.

“We benefited greatly from this match. We learned a lot against a fiercely competitive team with close lines that made our task very difficult,” Lorch said.

“Unfortunately, we lost and our chances of qualifying diminished. This requires an apology to the team’s fans.

“The goal was not to lose this match, but that happened. Juventus put us in the picture and what we need to do in the future to improve. I am very happy with my goal against a big club in Europe, but the goal is always the group, not individual achievements,” he added.

Wydad’s final Club World Cup group game will be against Emirati giants Al Ain on Thursday, 26 June, at 19:00 GMT.
