Former Marumo Gallants and Moroka Swallows Dylan Kerr has urged Mamelodi Sundowns to pounce on Thiago Silva’s weakness to secure victory over Fluminense.
The South African giants faces a daunting task in their quest to secure qualification to the knockout stage of the competition. The much-anticipated clash against the Brazilian club promises to be a tough one on Wednesday evening.
Despite exhibiting a brave performance against Dortmund, Sundowns succumbed to a 4-3 defeat undermining their qualification chances heading into the final Group F games.
Kerr believes Thiago Silva is too old and too slow, which could be exploited by the South African outfit.
“I watched Fluminense against Ulsan. Sundowns can beat them, especially if you target Thiago (Silva) – he can’t run. If they get someone quick to get behind Thiago, they’ll definitely win. He’s too slow. They attack down the flanks, they go to the right and left channels. They’ve got two very good wingers. But typical Brazilians, they like to keep possession.
Ulsan defended (most of the game) and went on a counter. I think Sundowns are better than that. Sundowns have to play the players that are quick. Sundowns players have a big opportunity to sell themselves. If they can win on Wednesday, they stay in the competition. He (Cardoso) has to refresh the squad against Fluminense, he needs quick players,” Kerr told KickOff.com.
