Inter Miami midfielder Sergio Busquets has hinted that they are anticipating a battle against Al Ahly in their opening games of the 2025 FIFA World Cup.
Inter Miami will face the Egyptian side on Sunday, June 15. The fixture will serve as the tournament’s curtain-raiser, with global stars such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Busquets expected to play key roles against Jose Riveiro’s side.
The match will also mark Riveiro’s official debut as Al Ahly manager.
Speaking about the game, Busquets said he is anticipating a very tough opening match against the 12-time African champions.
“I’m happy to start the Club World Cup, and in front of our fans, in our city,” the former Barcelona captain told FIFA.com.
“We know that it is very important to start well, and as you say in front of a great team, which is used to these tournaments, which is a very successful team in the African continent, and it will be a very hard game.
“We know that in Miami there are many Latinos. It is a very passionate crowd, which is always cheering for 90 minutes or whatever is played and that always supports the team in good times and bad, and we are very grateful,” he added.
