Mohamed Bin Hammam, the former president of the Asian Football Confederation, has once again taken his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to contest the treatment he has received in the ongoing dispute between him and FIFA.
In a statement to AFP, Bin Hammam simply stated, “My law firm and I appealed to the CAS.” This move comes in response to the suspension he faces, alongside an ongoing FIFA investigation procedure.
The ethics committee of FIFA is aiming to gather new evidence and reopen the case against Bin Hammam. This case had initially resulted in a life ban for Bin Hammam, a decision that was subsequently overturned by the CAS.
The controversy surrounding Bin Hammam dates back to May 2011 when he was accused of buying votes ahead of the FIFA presidential election. Subsequently, he withdrew from the race before eventually being banned for life. Bin Hammam’s persistent legal challenges indicate a continued effort to contest the allegations and seek a more favorable outcome through the CAS.
