FIFA announces date for 2026 U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco
FIFA has officially announced that the 2026 U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held in Morocco from October 17 to November 7.
The confirmation highlights FIFA’s commitment to expanding the global women’s football calendar and underscores Morocco’s growing role as a host of major international tournaments.
The tournament will feature 24 teams from six confederations, an expanded format designed to boost competitiveness and global representation. This edition reinforces FIFA’s broader strategy to strengthen women’s football, particularly at the youth level, offering emerging players a platform to showcase their talent and establish a pathway to senior international football.
Morocco’s appointment as host is part of a longer-term plan, as the country will stage five consecutive editions from 2025 to 2029.
This makes Morocco the first African nation to host the U-17 Women’s World Cup repeatedly, allowing FIFA to build on existing infrastructure, draw from prior organisational experience, and ensure continuity for the tournament.
Hosting the competition further solidifies Morocco’s reputation as a growing football hub.
The country has steadily positioned itself as a reliable organiser of international events in both men’s and women’s football, and the U-17 Women’s World Cup provides a valuable stage for African women’s football. Several African teams are expected to qualify, with Morocco earning automatic entry as the host nation.
With regional qualification campaigns already underway, the confirmation of official dates gives teams, organisers, and fans a clear timeline, building excitement as preparations move forward for what promises to be an important showcase of young talent.
