Ivory Coast has received commendation for its successful organization of the 18th African Women’s Champions Club Cup in 2012. The president of Fiba-Afrique, Mr. Dieudonné Mabusa Eseke, expressed satisfaction with the various aspects of the competition’s management. He acknowledged that the organizing committee excelled in delivering a great show, ensuring athletes had no complaints about their accommodations, food, and transportation.
While applauding Ivory Coast’s achievement, Mr. Eseke also emphasized the importance of the country investing in infrastructure to host major international competitions. He highlighted the need for multiple venues, stating, “We organized the African Cup of Women’s Champion Clubs in a single hall. I believe that for the Men’s Afrobasket, this will not be enough.” He mentioned hearing about another venue in addition to the Palais des Sports but indicated that nothing had been seen yet.
Fiba-Afrique is considering supporting the Ivorian basketball federation in meeting the necessary specifications for hosting major tournaments. Mr. Eseke mentioned ongoing inspection missions to ensure that Ivory Coast complies with the required standards within the specified deadlines. This collaborative effort aims to enhance the country’s capacity to host and organize successful international basketball events.
