Fiacre Ntwari’s Kaizer Chiefs debut for Kruger United hinges on work permit

Fiacre Ntwari’s availability for Kruger United’s Betway Premiership opener against Kaizer Chiefs remains uncertain after a delay in receiving his work permit.

The Rwandan goalkeeper joined Kruger United on a season-long loan from Kaizer Chiefs and could face his parent club when the teams meet at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday evening.

Ntwari moved to Kruger United in search of regular first-team football after dropping down the pecking order at the Soweto-based club last season. His loan move has created the possibility of an immediate meeting with Kaizer Chiefs, but administrative issues now threaten to prevent him from taking part.

Earlier information suggested the 26-year-old would be eligible to play against Amakhosi. However, the latest developments mean his selection will depend on whether the relevant paperwork is completed in time.

Loan agreements often contain a parent-club restriction, preventing a player from appearing against the side that owns his registration. That does not appear to be the issue in Ntwari’s case. Instead, Kruger United are waiting for his work permit to arrive before confirming whether he can be included in the squad.

Kruger United Sporting Director and General Manager Elasto Kapowezha said the goalkeeper is otherwise eligible to play against Kaizer Chiefs.

“Ntwari is eligible to play against Chiefs, but we are awaiting the arrival of his work permit. If it arrives on schedule, he will be available for selection tomorrow,” Kapowezha told KickOff.

The fixture is scheduled to begin at 20:00 at Mbombela Stadium, with Ntwari’s involvement now dependent on the timing of the permit’s arrival.

The match will mark the opening of Kruger United’s Betway Premiership campaign and could provide Ntwari with the regular playing opportunity he sought when he left Kaizer Chiefs temporarily. However, unless the documentation is finalised on schedule, the goalkeeper may have to wait before making his competitive debut for his new club.
