Moroccan midfielder Mohamed Ihattaren set for Feyenoord switch
Feyenoord are advancing in negotiations to sign Moroccan midfielder Mohamed Ihattaren, with plans to activate his release clause and bring him in from Fortuna Sittard.
The Dutch club are prepared to trigger a clause reported to be worth around €3 million to secure the services of Mohamed Ihattaren, in what is being viewed as both a sporting and financial decision.
Rather than a routine transfer, the move reflects a broader strategy by Feyenoord to invest in a player whose market value once reached significantly higher levels.
Despite recent challenges in his career, Ihattaren remains regarded as a technically gifted player with considerable potential.
From a financial standpoint, the relatively modest fee is seen as a calculated risk. Signing a 24-year-old with proven ability at a lower cost presents the possibility of future growth, both in terms of performance and market value.
His previous valuation, which exceeded €15 million, continues to underline the expectations that once surrounded his development.
For Feyenoord, the success of the deal will depend largely on their ability to provide the right environment for the midfielder to rebuild his form.
The club are expected to focus on reintegrating him into a structured and competitive setup, with the aim of restoring his consistency and confidence.
On the pitch, Ihattaren’s profile is viewed as a strong fit for the team’s attacking approach. His creativity, vision and ability to operate in tight spaces make him a potential asset in the final third, where he could play a key role in unlocking defences and shaping attacking play.
The transfer would also benefit Fortuna Sittard, who stand to receive the release clause fee if the move is completed. For the player, it represents an opportunity to relaunch his career at a club competing at a higher level.
While the agreement is not yet finalised, only administrative and legal steps remain before the clause can be activated. Interest from other clubs could still emerge, given the player’s profile and relatively low transfer cost.
Feyenoord are continuing their preparations for upcoming fixtures, including their next league match against NEC Nijmegen, as discussions over Ihattaren’s future progress.
