Ferran Torres closes Barcelona chapter with heartfelt message before Paris Saint-Germain switch

Ferran Torres has brought his four-and-a-half-year spell at Barcelona to an end with an emotional farewell to the club’s supporters, after completing a move to Paris Saint-Germain worth €50m. The transfer makes the Spain forward the fifth-most expensive player Barcelona have sold in their history.

Torres used his social media accounts to thank the Barcelona fans and reflect on a period he described as highly significant both professionally and personally. He said wearing the club’s shirt and representing its colours had been a great honour, while his time at Camp Nou had helped him develop as both a footballer and an individual.

The 26-year-old joined Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022. Over the next four-and-a-half seasons, he became an established member of the squad before deciding to take on a new challenge with Paris Saint-Germain, who secured his services for €50m.

In his farewell message, Torres explained that his years in Barcelona had made him a better player and a better person. He arrived with the ambition of giving everything he could and helping the club return to the position it deserved, he said, adding that Barcelona had felt like home throughout his time there.

The forward also paid tribute to the relationships he formed during his spell at the club. He said he would leave behind friends both on and off the pitch, as well as people who had contributed to the development of both himself and his team-mates.

His departure marks the conclusion of a chapter he described as being filled with memories and achievements. Torres won three La Liga titles during his time with Barcelona, as well as two Copa del Rey trophies and three Spanish Super Cup titles.

He also passed the 200-appearance mark for the club, scoring 65 goals and providing 23 assists. Those figures underline the role he played across his time in Catalonia, despite now moving on to a new stage of his career in France.

Torres’s arrival from Manchester City in January 2022 came as part of Barcelona’s efforts to strengthen their attacking options. He leaves having spent four-and-a-half seasons in the club’s colours and after establishing a significant record of appearances, goals and honours.

His €50m transfer to Paris Saint-Germain also places him among Barcelona’s biggest outgoing deals. The move will now give Torres the opportunity to begin a fresh challenge away from Camp Nou, while Barcelona bring an important period of his career to a close.
