Fernando Da Cruz cools Kaizer Chiefs PSL title expectations amid call for more signings

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has tempered expectations over his side’s chances of challenging for the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title this season, insisting the club still needs to strengthen its attacking department before setting lofty ambitions.

The Amakhosi have been linked with several attacking players ahead of the new campaign as they look to rebuild a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.

Speaking about the team’s prospects, Da Cruz admitted it is too early to consider Chiefs genuine title contenders, stressing that the squad remains incomplete.

“At the moment, no. We are still looking to strengthen our attacking options. Once we have the full squad, we can properly assess whether we can compete for the league title and also make a strong run in the CAF Confederation Cup.”

The French tactician believes additional reinforcements in the final third are crucial if Chiefs are to compete consistently throughout the season.

His comments suggest the club’s transfer business is far from over, with management expected to continue pursuing attacking additions before the transfer window closes.

While supporters will be eager to see the Glamour Boys return to the summit of South African football, Da Cruz has urged patience, emphasizing that any realistic assessment of the team’s title credentials can only be made once the squad is fully assembled.
