Fenerbahçe under social media scrutiny as Youssef En-Nesyri clears instagram amid criticism
Fenerbahçe find themselves under growing social media scrutiny after striker Youssef En-Nesyri temporarily wiped all club-related content from his Instagram account before restoring it, following criticism of his recent performances.
The Moroccan forward’s move mirrors that of English left-back Archie Brown, 23, who recently deleted all posts from his profile in the wake of fan backlash after Fenerbahçe’s draw with Samsunspor.
These high-profile social media clean-ups have fueled speculation of a deeper crisis affecting the club’s online presence.
En-Nesyri, 28, began the season in fine form, scoring five goals and providing an assist in his first nine matches. However, a subsequent five-game goal drought, his last goal coming against Alanyaspor on 17 September, has put him in the spotlight for missed chances and subdued performances, prompting his temporary retreat from sharing Fenerbahçe content.
According to Türkiye Gazetesi, the striker now reportedly regrets remaining at Fenerbahçe despite lucrative offers of €30 million last season and €40 million this year. Coach Mourinho’s support had convinced him to stay, but disappointing displays against Nice and Samsunspor have reignited speculation about a potential winter exit.
Former Beşiktaş midfielder Sinan Engin added fuel to the debate, questioning En-Nesyri’s ability to lead Fenerbahçe to a Super Lig title.
“Fenerbahçe cannot win the championship with En-Nesyri. This man is not even half as good as Icardi and Osimhen,” Engin told Beyaz TV, drawing comparisons with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who has impressed since his summer move.
So far this season, En-Nesyri has netted four goals in eight league appearances, while Fenerbahçe trail Galatasaray by six points. The striker failed to score in last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Samsunspor, while Osimhen continued his strong form, scoring the decisive goal in Napoli’s 1-0 Champions League win over Liverpool on Tuesday.
As questions mount both on and off the pitch, Fenerbahçe and En-Nesyri face a critical period, with fans watching closely for the striker’s next move.
