Fenerbahce are set to open discussions with Atalanta later this month as they step up efforts to sign Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman.
The 28-year-old had been tipped for a move away from Bergamo following three impressive seasons in Italy last summer. However, Atalanta resisted all approaches despite strong interest from European heavyweights including Inter Milan, Bayern Munich and Tottenham Hotspur.
Interest from Turkey has intensified, with both Galatasaray and Fenerbahce monitoring the situation closely.
According reports, Fenerbahce are keen to move ahead of their rivals and have already made contact with Atalanta to arrange formal talks over a potential deal.
Lookman has endured a relatively quiet start to the current campaign, registering three goals and two assists in 19 outings across all competitions.
With his contract due to expire at the end of next season, Atalanta could be under pressure to cash in rather than risk losing him for a reduced fee.
The forward enjoyed an amazing Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, scoring three goals and delivering four assists in seven games, as the Super Eagles finished third at the end of the tournament in Morocco.
