Fenerbahce have expressed interest in signing Real Madrid defender David Alaba, but the Turkish club faces considerable challenges in making the move happen, according to a report by AS.
Alaba, who is of Nigerian descent through his father and Austrian by birth, remains a highly rated defender despite recent injuries.
However, the possibility of him joining the Istanbul-based side appears remote due to both financial constraints and fan sentiments.
One major complication is Alaba’s known affinity with Galatasaray, Fenerbahce’s fierce city rivals.
This detail has raised concerns among club officials about potential backlash from supporters, who may be unwilling to embrace a player perceived to have rival loyalties.
Moreover, Alaba’s salary expectations pose a significant hurdle. The 32-year-old currently earns an estimated €13 million per year at Real Madrid — a figure that far exceeds Fenerbahce’s financial capacity.
The club is already managing a bloated wage structure after recent high-profile acquisitions, including Milan Skriniar, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Jhon Duran.
Given these issues, Fenerbahce would likely require either a substantial salary reduction from Alaba or a creative financing arrangement to make the deal viable.
With no indication yet that the player is prepared to accept such terms, the prospect of a transfer remains unlikely for now.
