Fenerbahce intensify pursuit of Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku

Fenerbahce have stepped up their efforts to sign Romelu Lukaku, with club president Aziz Yildirim reportedly taking a personal role in the negotiations.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Turkish giants are working intensively to bring the experienced Belgian striker to Istanbul.

Talks between Fenerbahce and Lukaku’s representatives are already progressing, as the club attempts to convince the 33-year-old that Turkey should be his next destination. Lukaku’s physical presence, finishing ability and wealth of international experience have made him an attractive target for Fenerbahce, who are keen to strengthen their attacking options.

The Turkish side must still reach an agreement with Napoli, where Lukaku remains under contract. Negotiations over a transfer fee will therefore be crucial before the move can advance. Fenerbahce’s discussions with the player’s camp represent an important first step, but a full agreement between the clubs is still required.

Interest from AS Monaco appears less advanced than previously suggested by Italian media. The French club had been linked with Lukaku as another possible European destination, but Fenerbahce currently seem to be applying greater pressure.

The coming days could determine whether Lukaku begins a new chapter in Istanbul or remains in Serie A.
