Malian forward Dorgeles Nene set for surgery in blow to Fenerbahçe
Fenerbahçe have been dealt a significant setback with Malian forward Dorgeles Nene set to undergo surgery, ruling him out at a crucial stage of the season.
The 22-year-old attacker has been struggling with a groin injury for several weeks but had continued to feature despite the discomfort.
He notably played in the high-profile clash against Galatasaray before being rested for the Turkish Cup encounter with Konyaspor and subsequently omitted from the squad against İstanbul Başakşehir.
Following further medical assessment, the club’s medical team has now decided that surgical intervention is required.
The procedure is aimed at resolving the issue fully and ensuring the player can return in optimal condition for the next campaign.
The timing of the decision presents a challenge for Fenerbahçe, who remain engaged in a competitive Süper Lig title race.
Losing a key attacking option at this stage of the season could have implications for the team’s ambitions as they approach the final stretch.
Nene has been a central figure in Fenerbahçe’s attacking setup throughout the campaign.
His contributions have been consistent, both in terms of scoring and creating opportunities, making him one of the team’s most productive players.
Across all competitions this season, the Malian international has made 39 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 10 assists.
These numbers underline his influence and highlight the gap his absence is likely to create in the squad.
His willingness to continue playing despite injury had demonstrated his importance to the team, but the decision to proceed with surgery reflects a longer-term approach to his fitness and availability.
Fenerbahçe will now have to adapt without him as they navigate the closing stages of the season.
Attention will also turn to his recovery timeline, with the focus on ensuring he returns fully fit and ready for the next campaign.
