Fenerbahce agree deal with Napoli to sign Romelu Lukaku

Fenerbahce have reached an agreement with Napoli to sign Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to Sky Sport Italia.

The 33-year-old has already completed a medical with the Turkish club and is preparing to join Fenerbahce. The two clubs are now working on the documentation required to complete the transfer, with an official announcement expected once the paperwork has been finalised.

Fenerbahce agreed personal terms with Lukaku before opening negotiations with Napoli, according to the report. Turkish outlet HT Spor says the club is aiming to complete the deal for less than $10m.

Lukaku helped Napoli win the Serie A title in the 2024-25 season, but his involvement declined significantly during the following campaign. Injuries limited him to five league appearances last season, and he was no longer regarded as a regular part of the team’s starting plans.

Napoli also have Rasmus Højlund among their attacking options, further reducing Lukaku’s importance within the squad. Reports indicate the Italian club could accept a fee of about €10m for the striker.

The main obstacle for clubs interested in Lukaku has been his salary, which is understood to be €8m a year. Fenerbahce must therefore complete the final financial and administrative details before the transfer can be formally confirmed.

The agreement between Fenerbahce and Napoli would bring an end to Lukaku’s time with the Italian club after a season in which his opportunities were heavily affected by injury. Although he played a part in Napoli’s Serie A triumph in 2024-25, he featured only five times in the league during the next season.

Sky Sport Italia reports that the medical examination has already been passed, leaving the transfer documents as the remaining step before the move is announced. Fenerbahce’s earlier agreement with the player means the Turkish side is now seeking to conclude the club-to-club deal at a cost below the figure reported by HT Spor.

Napoli’s willingness to consider a fee of around €10m has made a transfer possible, but Lukaku’s annual wage remains the most significant difficulty in completing the move. Should the final documentation be completed, the Belgium international will leave Napoli for Fenerbahce this summer.
