Felix Uduokhai: German-Nigerian Besiktas defender linked with Borussia Monchengladbach move

Felix Uduokhai, the German-Nigerian centre-back currently at Besiktas, is being linked with a return to the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach reportedly interested in a move for the 28-year-old. The defender is under contract with the Istanbul club until 30 June 2027, meaning any deal would require Besiktas’ agreement rather than a cut-price exit.

Uduokhai only joined Besiktas on a permanent basis last summer, when the Turkish side paid around €5m to sign him from Augsburg following an initial loan spell. His current market value is estimated at about €3.5m, a figure that would make him an affordable target for Monchengladbach as they look to strengthen their options at the heart of defence ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.

The left-footed centre-back has yet to feature for Besiktas in the current UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign, with his involvement so far limited to the squad rather than the starting XI. That lack of minutes early in the season could encourage Monchengladbach to test Besiktas’ resolve, although there is no indication yet that formal talks have begun or that an agreement is close.

Born in Annaberg-Buchholz and standing at 1.93m, Uduokhai has spent the bulk of his career in Germany with 1860 Munich, Wolfsburg and Augsburg before his move to Turkey. Having reached a peak market valuation of €16m earlier in his career, a transfer now would represent a relatively low-risk deal for Monchengladbach, but Besiktas’ position is likely to be shaped by the two years remaining on his contract.
