Félix Sunzu Stopila is set to make a return to TP Mazembe, as confirmed by club president Moïse Katumbi on the Corbeaux website. Despite attracting interest from European teams such as Reading and Stoke City, the winner of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with the Chipolopolos has decided to, for the time being, forego his desire to play in Europe.
Katumbi stated, “Yes, you can write it, Sunzu is back in Mazembe,” and explained that Sunzu has temporarily abandoned his European aspirations with the intention of fulfilling his existing contract with the club, which still binds them for another three years. This return to Lubumbashi appears to be influenced by the player’s dissatisfaction with the offers he received from European clubs.
The comeback of Félix Sunzu Stopila will bolster Patrice Carteron’s squad for various competitions, including the CAF Cup. TP Mazembe is in the process of finalizing its list of 30 players for this continental tournament, and Sunzu’s name is expected to be included.
