Felix Nmecha targets late-season Dortmund return
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Felix Nmecha faces several weeks out after suffering a lateral collateral ligament injury in his knee during the 3-2 win over Hamburger just before the international break.
The diagnosis, reported by Bild, revealed a tear to the ligament, a serious setback for the 25-year-old midfielder just months before the World Cup.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann admitted the situation is worrying, saying: “There is definitely a risk that he won’t be able to play in the World Cup”. Despite the gravity of the injury, Dortmund, the medical staff and Nmecha have opted for conservative treatment rather than surgery, hoping to manage his recovery carefully.
According to Bild, the rehabilitation plan is built around a return in the final matches of the Bundesliga season in May, if everything progresses smoothly. That timeline would keep Nmecha in contention for a place in Germany’s World Cup squad, even if his preparation is far from ideal. For both club and country, his comeback in those closing weeks could be crucial, turning a worrying diagnosis into a late, timely boost.
