Felix Agu seeks second opinion on injury

Werder Bremen defender Felix Agu is still searching for a way back from his injury problems, with the club now seeking a second medical opinion.

The 27-year-old full-back is currently sidelined with a calf muscle injury and has not played a competitive match since April 12. He has since managed only two short appearances in friendly matches.

Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, said Agu will undergo further examinations away from the club. “He is being treated here, but he has decided to get a second opinion. He will therefore be examined at another location for a few days,” Niemeyer told Bild.

The club wants to look beyond the immediate injury and identify the causes of Agu’s recurring muscle problems. “We are trying to look deeper and examine the body holistically. We are not only looking at the acute injury,” Niemeyer said.

A return date remains uncertain, and it could be after November’s international break. “With Felix, it will take a while. We need a bit more patience. He simply has to become stable,” Niemeyer added.

Agu’s contract expires next summer, and talks over an extension are currently on hold.
