Felix Agu remains unavailable for Bremen's clash with Stuttgart

Werder Bremen manager Daniel Thioune has confirmed that Felix Agu will miss the upcoming Bundesliga fixture against VfB Stuttgart on Sunday, extending the defender’s frustrating season.

The 26-year-old continues to struggle with fitness issues that have limited him to just eleven league appearances this campaign.

A syndesmosis injury during the first half of the season caused a significant setback for Agu, and subsequent muscular problems have further complicated his recovery. Thioune acknowledged the delicate nature of managing the player’s comeback, stating that following the serious injury, the situation remains unchanged in “that you always have to be very, very careful with him”. The coach emphasized the importance of Agu signaling early when training loads become excessive.

Thioune noted that Agu operates at extremes, knowing only “0 percent” when unavailable or “100 percent” when giving maximum effort. Currently, the former key player cannot consistently perform at full capacity.

Despite these challenges, Thioune remains optimistic about Agu’s return before season’s end, describing it as “very, very probable” that he will rejoin the squad. Meanwhile, Bremen’s sporting director Peter Niemeyer confirmed the club’s interest in extending Agu’s contract beyond 2027, with initial discussions already underway.
