According to reports from camfoot.com, Joseph Owona, the president of the standardization committee of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), allegedly sent a letter to the Cameroonian Head of State, Paul Biya, requesting an extension of his mandate beyond the scheduled elections on March 31. Owona reportedly justified his request by claiming that organizing elections by the FIFA-set deadline would lead to serious public unrest and disrupt the preparation of the national football team, the Indomitable Lions, for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Camfoot.com interprets this request as an attempt by Owona to secure an extension for himself and other committee members to benefit from increased FIFA allocations linked to the World Cup. The Fécafoot communications unit has not provided any official response to these allegations.
