FC Porto have approached Egyptian giants Al Ahly over the potential signing of Tunisian international Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane, following the midfielder’s standout performance during the recent FIFA Club World Cup clash between the two sides.

The Portuguese club made initial contact with Al Ahly management in an attempt to explore the possibility of bringing the 25-year-old to the Estádio do Dragão.

The interest was sparked by Ben Romdhane’s impressive display in a thrilling 4-4 draw that caught the attention of Porto scouts.

Despite Porto’s eagerness to open transfer negotiations, their enquiry was swiftly met with resistance. Al Ahly firmly rejected the approach, reiterating their commitment to retaining Ben Romdhane, who was signed only recently and is seen as a central figure in the club’s plans moving forward.

The Egyptian club, still seeking redemption after an early exit in the last Club World Cup, considers the Tunisian playmaker essential to their ambitions.

With a renewed focus on reclaiming the CAF Champions League title, Al Ahly view Ben Romdhane as a key component in restoring their continental dominance.

Ben Romdhane’s growing profile is underscored by his market valuation, which currently stands at €1.5 million according to Transfermarkt.

His journey has included spells at Espérance de Tunis and Hungarian side Ferencváros, where he consistently impressed before making the switch to Cairo.

His recent move to Al Ahly was seen as a major coup for the club, adding a creative and technically gifted option in midfield. Since arriving, he has quickly established himself as a starter and has already made significant contributions to the team’s structure and attacking rhythm.

Porto, known for their strategy of recruiting emerging talent from across the globe, have placed Ben Romdhane firmly on their radar.

Although their initial approach was turned down, the club is expected to continue monitoring the player closely and could return with a fresh bid should Al Ahly’s stance soften in the future.

For now, Al Ahly remain focused on their immediate objectives and are unwilling to entertain transfer negotiations for a player they believe is vital to their success.

The Cairo-based outfit is determined to build a cohesive squad capable of challenging on all fronts, and Ben Romdhane is considered one of the cornerstones of that vision.

As one of Tunisia’s most highly regarded midfielders, Ben Romdhane’s performances have already earned him a place among the top ten most valuable Tunisian midfielders as of April 2025.

His blend of vision, control, and tactical intelligence has made him a standout figure both domestically and internationally.

While FC Porto’s interest underlines his rising stock in European football circles, any potential move appears unlikely in the short term unless Al Ahly’s priorities shift.

For the moment, the midfielder remains committed to helping the Egyptian champions return to the summit of African football, even as speculation around his future continues to build.
