In the closing hours of the winter transfer window, Nassim Ben Khalifa secured a move to Belgian side Mechelen. The Swiss-born attacking midfielder of Tunisian descent joins the Jupiler Pro League club on a loan deal from Turkish outfit Eskisehirspor, which runs until the end of the season. The agreement also includes an option for Mechelen to make the transfer permanent.
At 24 years old, Ben Khalifa brings a wealth of experience for his age, having played across several European leagues. His career began in Germany with Wolfsburg during the 2010–2011 season, followed by a brief spell at Nuremberg in 2011. He then returned to Switzerland, featuring for Young Boys Bern from 2011 to 2012 and later for Grasshoppers Zurich between 2012 and 2015, before moving to Turkey to join Eskisehirspor.
On the international stage, Ben Khalifa has represented Switzerland, earning two caps for the national team. His versatility and attacking flair are expected to bolster Mechelen’s midfield options and provide creativity in the final third as the club pushes through the remainder of the season.
With this loan move, Ben Khalifa aims to regain regular playing time and form after a period of limited opportunities in Turkey. Mechelen will look to leverage his experience and technical ability to strengthen their squad and make an impact in the Jupiler Pro League.
