Jordan Ayew Defends His Record at Lorient: “I Can’t Do Everything on My Own!”
Jordan Ayew is standing up for himself amid growing criticism from Lorient supporters. The Ghanaian striker, who transferred from Olympique de Marseille to FC Lorient during the summer for €4 million, has had to deal with boos and high expectations — despite his contributions to the team.
In an interview with L’Équipe following Lorient’s 3-2 away win against Toulouse, Ayew didn’t hold back:
“Look at the stats and we’ll talk… People can say whatever they want, but I’ve been involved in all of Lorient’s goals for a while now, so there you go. If I don’t score, I make assists.”
So far this season, Ayew has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in 13 Ligue 1 matches, a respectable record for a player in a struggling team. Despite his efforts, criticism persists — and Ayew believes it’s partly unfair.
“I can’t do everything on my own! Even if you bring Messi into this team or coach Guardiola, it won’t change anything.”
Ayew also addressed the overall inexperience of the Lorient squad:
“Many players are just starting out. Some haven’t even played ten Ligue 1 games and they’re already starters. We know this season will be tough. We need to stay humble and keep working hard.”
Currently sitting 15th in Ligue 1, just four points above the relegation zone, Lorient is having a difficult season. But Ayew, with his passion and defiant attitude, is proving to be one of the key figures willing to fight for survival.
Bottom line: Jordan Ayew is not backing down from criticism — and he’s reminding everyone that it takes more than one player to turn a season around.
