FC Copenhagen have formally opened negotiations with Swedish side IFK Norrköping in an attempt to secure the signing of 20-year-old Ghanaian defender Kojo Peprah Oppong, according to sources close to the deal.
Oppong, who has drawn considerable interest following a string of standout performances in Sweden’s top tier, has emerged as a key target for Copenhagen manager Jacob Neestrup.
The Danish Superliga giants are believed to have identified the young centre-back as a crucial addition to their defensive line ahead of next season.
The Ghanaian defender is under contract with Norrköping until the summer of 2026, but with just one year remaining, the Swedish club is eager to avoid the risk of losing him on a free transfer.
Talks are said to be progressing rapidly, as both clubs are motivated to reach an agreement before the transfer window officially opens.
A representative from UKSPORTMANAGEMENT.COM, which manages the player’s career interests, confirmed that Copenhagen has taken concrete steps towards a four-year deal for Oppong at Parken Stadium, the club’s home ground.
While no official agreement has been reached, the Danish side is understood to be leading the race, with rival interest from other clubs, including FC Midtjylland, remaining in the background.
Despite interest from multiple teams, it is Copenhagen who have taken the initiative, approaching Norrköping directly and receiving approval from their head coach to move forward with the deal.
Given the limited time remaining on Oppong’s contract, the Swedish outfit is expected to entertain serious offers in the coming weeks to avoid losing their asset for nothing next year.
Valued at approximately €300,000 by Transfermarkt, Oppong has featured prominently for Norrköping during the current Allsvenskan campaign. He has already amassed 17 appearances, completing the full 90 minutes in 15 of those outings — a testament to his consistency and fitness.
His versatility across the back line, coupled with his physicality and tactical intelligence, has elevated his profile as one of the most promising young defenders in the Scandinavian leagues.
Before breaking into Norrköping’s first team, Oppong spent time with the club’s reserve squad and was previously loaned out to GIF Sundsvall. During his two-season stint at Sundsvall, he made 41 appearances, gaining valuable top-flight experience and honing his defensive abilities in the process.
On the international stage, Oppong is yet to make his debut for the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars. However, a move to a more competitive league such as the Danish Superliga could enhance his visibility and bolster his chances of a future call-up.
With the summer transfer window looming and Oppong’s stock continuing to rise, both clubs are expected to intensify discussions in the days ahead. If successful, the move could mark a significant step forward in the career of the young defender, while reinforcing Copenhagen’s defensive ranks as they prepare for domestic and European campaigns.
As the situation develops, all eyes will be on whether Copenhagen can finalise a deal and bring one of the Allsvenskan’s brightest defensive talents to Denmark.
