FC Augsburg set to reward French-Congolese defender Chrislain Matsima with a new contract
FC Augsburg are preparing to reward French-Congolese central defender Chrislain Matsima with a new contract following his outstanding performances this season, Africasoccer has learned.
The club is expected to begin extension talks “as soon as possible” to secure his long-term future.
Although Matsima’s current contract already runs until 2029, the Bundesliga side wants to reaffirm his importance to the team by offering improved terms.
The 23-year-old joined Augsburg permanently from AS Monaco last summer after a successful loan spell, with the club paying approximately €5 million for his transfer.
Since then, he has become a pivotal part of Jess Thorup’s defensive setup, earning praise for his composure, reliability, and leadership at the back.
Reports earlier this season suggested that Augsburg could be open to selling Matsima if a bid in the region of €30 million, potentially a club-record fee, arrives next summer.
By moving to extend his contract, the club not only signals full confidence in the defender but also strengthens its leverage in any future transfer negotiations.
Matsima’s rapid rise in value and growing influence make him one of the most important assets at the club heading into the next transfer window.
