Fawzi Lakjaa presents Morocco’s world cup preparations to king mohammed VI ahead of FIFA vote
With just a week remaining until FIFA’s decision on the host for the 2030 World Cup, Fawzi Lakjaa, Morocco’s Minister Delegate for the Budget and President of the 2030 World Cup Committee, provided an in-depth update to King Mohammed VI on the nation’s readiness for the historic event.
During a ministerial council held on Wednesday at the Royal Palace in Rabat, Lakjaa reviewed the milestones achieved by Morocco’s joint bid with Spain and Portugal.
This bid, first announced by King Mohammed VI on March 14, 2023, in Kigali, was formally submitted on July 29, 2024.
On October 4, 2023, FIFA unanimously recognized the Morocco-Spain-Portugal proposal as a unified bid, an unprecedented achievement underscoring the strength of the collaboration.
According to a statement from the Royal Court, Lakjaa highlighted the remarkable mobilization of resources across ministries, public institutions, and local authorities.
The FIFA evaluation report, published on November 29, 2024, awarded the bid an exceptional rating, far exceeding the required standards.
This positions the trio of nations as strong contenders ahead of the upcoming extraordinary FIFA Council session where the final decision will be made.
Lakjaa further outlined the comprehensive strategy to ensure Morocco meets FIFA’s stringent requirements.
A specialized committee, formed under Royal directives, will include representatives from civil society, Moroccan expatriates, and African experts.
The plan encompasses a wide array of infrastructure projects, including the renovation of stadiums, expansion of airports in the six host cities, enhancement of road networks, and the launch of integrated urban redevelopment programs.
The initiative also involves upgrading healthcare services, modernizing telecommunications, and implementing extensive training programs to equip the nation’s youth with essential skills.
In his closing remarks, Lakjaa emphasized that the 2030 World Cup is more than a sporting event.
“It presents a unique opportunity to accelerate national economic growth, create jobs, boost Morocco’s tourism appeal, and champion universal values of peace, unity, and sustainable development,” he stated.
As anticipation builds, Morocco’s meticulous preparation reflects its ambition to deliver an unforgettable World Cup alongside its Iberian partners, marking a transformative chapter for the region and global football.
